"The Death Of The Spec" really hits home. It is an odd place to be for many when technology has reached a level where the standard year or two old technology is sufficient. Gone are the days of paying top dollar to purchase the top of the line processor and getting as much RAM and hard drive space as you can afford. Your average laptop for around $600 will be more than enough to handle everything most people do. It took a bit of time for me to get friends and family members to realize this new paradigm. This also shifts your time between machines; because you are not spending as much as in the past you can pick up a new computer every two or three years instead of five or more. (Note that because of gaming, video editing, etc. there is still a need for top of the line machines.)
